Eugenio Derbez is the character Eloy Gamenó from the expression “Óigame no” in the program “Derbez en siempre” (1998), Ludovico P. Luche from “Tóigala, papa, tórla!” in “La familia P. Luche” (2002) and Aaron Abasolo from “Ask me, cabron” in “XHDBZ” (2002). Mexicans will never forget those jokes. Similar to the style of fable told from the future in “How I Met Your Mother,” “Acapulco” finds Máximo (Derbez) narrating his rise to success to his nephew. In the first season, it was fun and romantic to go back to the ‘Max’ flashbacks and see him exceeding the expectations of his boss in “Las Colinas.”

In the third season, the origin stories of the “Acapulco” characters are better established. Máximo perfectly understands the service mission in a luxury hotel. His mother, Nora (Vanessa Bauche), accepts her daughter’s sexual orientation. The waiter Héctor (Rafael Aranda) reveals his cheerful and attractive personality in the background. With all this, the episodes become funnier, because at the center of the plots is Max, so committed to moving up in positions that he even becomes depersonalized.

If in the first seasons, Derbez seemed a little rigid being Máximo; In the third installment, he offers everything he has as an actor. The corporality and tempo of the comedy are very natural. He turns around or says some phrase and there is his naive and off-limits personality. In a way, he invites his castmates to be part of his grace.

Jaime Camil and other Mexican actors

The presence of new Mexican characters is key. Jaime Camil, in the role of the executive who owns the hotel, appears with funny comedy formulas, but a superb character with which he demands that his subordinates please his whims.

An important Mexican presence is Ramón Álvarez, in the character of the tender and humble janitor Paco, who serves as comic relief when he appears on stage. He is a secondary character, but seeing one of the first Mexican actors in an Apple series deserves applause. It is as if the creators saw in this comedy of Latin American mockery a way to appeal to nostalgia through laughter.

However, it would be unfair not to mention other Hispanics in the series. On the one hand, Máximo’s now in love, Julia (Colombia), defends her talent as a fashion designer from “Las Colinas”. On the other hand, ‘Max’s friend, Hector (Spain), provides his share of humor when he hides his feelings for the woman of his dreams, Diane (Jessica Collins), the hotel manager. The characters return in a future time as successful adults and meet Máximo.

Damian Alcazar

Máximo learns to be the boss, a difficult task. Damián Alcázar is the mentor who teaches his hotel disciple, noble and young, therefore tempted to have power, to grow in the business. His career is on the rise and he must handle the decisions of the position well. With his hard-working nature, he has earned the respect of his friends and superiors, but he will feel conflicted about upholding his principles and not giving in.

At this point, Jaime Camil has an important role as the executive of the “Las Colinas” hotel and, given that he is one of the most interesting comedians in Mexico, his presence is important in the plot of Máximo and Damián, two characters trying to maintain the control of the employees, their antics and whims, in the famous Acapulco hotel.

In the third season of “Acapulco”, “Las Colinas” returns with romances pulling a tightrope, the characters learn to make better decisions, suffer the consequences of their actions and find those defects and virtues worthy of their essence. Thus, the experience of seeing them in the scenes comes hand in hand with a funny and moving script, but also as Mexican as the Day of the Dead, tacos with guacamole and Eugenio Derbez.
