Some members of the cast of the series returned to the set of the famous comedy for an advertisement on the social network

WhatsApp has brought together part of the cast of Modern Family to star in a new commercial focused on promoting groups between families who use both iPhone and Android devices.

The ad addresses the difficulties iPhone users face when trying to include friends with Android in group chatsdue to iMessage limitations that change messages to MMS and disable features like read receipts and full image encryption.

Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson appear in the commercial, where they discuss frustrations with messages and functionality issues.

Cam, Claire and Phil are talking about a photo they sent to the family group until Mitchell arrives and discovers the existence of this chat. “Did they create a group chat without me? What a shame!” Mitchell tells them. “It’s not you, it’s your new phone,” Cam replies.

In addition to the video featuring Cam, Claire, Phil and Mitchell, there is a second video of just the Dunphy parents. There Phil and Claire complain that their children have stopped responding to the family group because blurry photos now appear.

The problem is solved when the Dunphy family moves to WhatsApp and their children respond to the chat again.

Currently, group chats between different types of phones, such as iPhone and Android, face challenges in interoperability, especially with Apple’s iMessage.

iPhone users in the United States avoid inviting Android friends to these chats because iMessage automatically switches to MMS, disabling features like read receipts, encryption, and full image quality.

WhatsApp has chosen the cast of Modern Family to highlight the advantages of its service over others, especially Apple’s iMessage, which has fragmented users in the United States according to the type of phone. The company seeks to provide a “hassle-free and private” alternative that is equally effective regardless of the device used.

1. Open the WhatsApp application on your mobile device.

2. Go to the Chats tab at the bottom of the screen.

3. Press the ‘New chat’ or ‘New group’ icon, depending on the version of the app.

4. Select the desired contacts from the contact list.

5. Once all the family contacts have been selected, click on ‘Create group’.

6. Assign a name to the family group and optionally choose a profile picture.

7. Confirm the creation of the group by tapping ‘Create’.

8. The family group is created and now you can start sending messages, photos, videos and other files within the group on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has improved its video calling functionality allowing users to connect with up to 32 participants from any device.

Additionally, screen sharing with audio is now possible during video calls, a feature that was not available before. The featured speaker feature has also been integratedautomatically highlighting the person who is speaking, thus making it easier to follow in video conferences with multiple participants.

“Today we have several updates that will further improve calling on all devices, which we will implement in the coming weeks,” WhatsApp mentioned.

In a video call, the codec plays a crucial role in the quality of the audio and video. Recently, Meta introduced the MLow codec on WhatsApp, Designed to reduce noise and echo interference in noisy environments.

With MLow, WhatsApp promises clearer audio even with low connectivity or older devices, and higher video resolution when the connection allows it. The company is committed to continuing to improve call quality to deliver a clear and seamless experience anywhere.
