Willem Dafoe is the last to bring it to life

Van Helsing He is one of the characters of Dracula most prolific in the history of television and cinema with their more than 20 adaptations. But that doesn’t stop him from trying to make another version that adds to the monster hunter’s extensive catalogue.

According to reports deadline, CBS prepares a Van Helsing series after an intense bidding war to acquire it. The executive producer will be Rob Doherty, who reimagined Sherlock Holmes for modern times with his successful series Elementary, who also aired on CBS.

Call Beverly and Sarah Timberman will serve as executive producers for Lionsgate TV, which is backing the project. Author Jonathan Lee will write the series. The official synopsis for this new version of Van Helsing says so:

A contemporary take on the monster hunter, who uses his uniquely curious mind working alongside his ex, ruthless HBI Special Agent Mina Harker, to solve New York City’s most harrowing cases.

Being from the same creator, the series has many overtones of Elementary that it was a revision of Sherlock Holmes keeping it in a modern framework between police and detectives.

This is not the first time that the character of Abraham Van Helsing from Dracula by Bram Stoker as a main character. In 2004, Universal attempted to make the character a solo hero with Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing.

In the 2010s, Syfy premiered a series of Van Helsing which moved the myth to a dystopian future and followed Abraham’s female descendant, Vanessa, who awakens from a coma to find a world overrun by vampires.

Van Helsing Syfy aired for five seasons between 2016 and 2021 and won over a large fandom, proving that the character was viable to keep a franchise or series afloat.

Anthony Hopkins also played Van Helsing in Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola, while Christopher Plummer did it in Dracula 2000. The last to bring him to life will be Willem Dafoe in Nosferatu by Robert Eggers.
