In statements to the national channel Ecuavisa, Acuña explained that they recently sent a letter to the president with suggestions about what he should do to avoid a new energy crisis in the country, but they never received a response, he said.

Likewise, the specialist explained that the president’s assertions about possible sabotage in power plants have surprised professionals in the sector. The authorities have not listened to that. You can’t say sabotage that way. When Mr. Noboa was a candidate, we personally gave him documents in which we indicated our vision of what should be done in the electricity sector, he said.

This Tuesday, the new Minister of Energy and Mines, Roberto Luque, stated that there will be no easy short-term solutions to the electricity sector crisis that has caused blackouts throughout the country.

In statements to the press, the official considered that the current crisis is due to a series of factors, among them he mentioned administrative, climate, planning and historical corruption issues.

Luque, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works, was appointed to the position to replace Andrea Arrobo, whom Noboa asked to resign after the announcement of the start of a new schedule of blackouts throughout the country.

Also this Tuesday, Noboa said that there would be no more five-hour outages, however, during the day there were dissimilar blackouts nationwide, in some places up to eight hours, while the electricity companies already announced the schedule for this Wednesday.

In this South American nation, hydroelectric plants are almost at the limit of their operating capacity, while Colombia reduced the sale of energy.
