The downspout of the river Parana will continue to complicate agro-export logistics for a good part of the year, forcing ships to leave the ports with a lower draft. Ports of Greater Rosario and increasing the usual warehouse completion operations in White Bay and quequen.

In fact, as reported by Argenports.com, the lower flow makes exporters that operate in the port terminals in the south of Buenos Aires once again offer important “prizes” due to the need to complete shipments of corn on ships coming from the Hidrovía that could not load the programmed total.

In this sense, after the significant flood that the river had at the end of last year, which reached alert levels in the city of Santa Fethe situation gradually changed in the summer months and currently the river has a downward trend.

In statements to the newspaper El Litoral, of Santa Fe, the specialist in water issues, engineer Juan Carlos Bertoniwho was until recently president of the National Water Institute (INA)indicated that although there is some rain, especially in Brazilian and Paraguayan territory, it is not enough to change the panorama of water deficit in the upper basin and in the Argentine part.

“It is very difficult to make forecasts on this issue because we are seeing extreme climate variability, with convulsive rain events and different situations. We have had a very prolonged drought, which we have not had in 100 years for example, so when one has anomalies that occur with very low frequency, one says when the next one could be or what awaits us next and we do not know why we do not have data ”he explained.

The professional maintained that the coastal cities should be on alert, not an alarm, because problems may arise in the supply of water, fish mortality and a greater amount of polluting substances on the beaches.
