The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which brings together the main opposition parties in Venezuela, had denounced earlier this Tuesday that the CNE did not allow several parties to formally sign their support for the candidate. Gonzalez Urrutia.

Although González Urrutia appears on the MUD card, the objective is expand your range of support to avoid potential vetoes to specific electoral cards, so that his candidacy can reach the July 28 elections unscathed and face Nicolás Maduro.

The MPV and UNT had originally nominated Manuel Rosales, but decided to add their electoral cards in support of González Urrutia, after the single nomination agreement reached by the PUD on April 19. Last Saturday, the UNT party reported the resignation of Rosales, who did not gather the support of the MUD to win the coalition candidacy.

The general secretary of the PUD, Omar Barboza, denounced this Tuesday the “unsuccessful” attempts by the Movement for Venezuela and Un Nuevo Tiempo —party of Governor Manuel Rosales— and appealed to the CNE to fulfill its “constitutional duty” and “facilitate the participation of the people in the electoral process.”

Edmundo González Urrutia himself advocated on social networks to “advance in a transition to definitive freedom” and to fulfill “the desire and mandate of millions of citizens who demand a change,” after his name was chosen by the coalition to resolve the veto of María Corina Machado, disqualified from holding public office.

Besides, the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, This Tuesday, he described it as “extraordinary” that the Venezuelan opposition is grouped around a single candidate and reiterated his desire that all sectors respect the result of the elections on July 28.

In the last month, the Brazilian Government expressed its “concern” about the obstacles imposed on the registration of candidates and received an angry response from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry. Lula insisted this Tuesday that the elections in Venezuela, as well as in other countries, must be “transparent” and that the result of the elections must be recognized by everyone.
