After the closing of electoral campaigns in the last hours, among the candidates for the head of state who could receive greater support at the polls are the current leader of the ruling military junta Mahamat Idriss Déby and the incumbent Prime Minister, Succes Masra.

Déby Itno has the support of the coalition For a United Chad, which includes more than 200 political parties and movements, while Masra participates in the democratic exercise supported by a broad spectrum of the opposition, television media reported.

During his electoral rallies, the current interim president of the Sahel State promised his supporters to ensure the optimization of defense and security, national reconciliation and organize a referendum on a new Constitution.

In April 2021, Déby Itno came to power, after the death of his father Idriss Déby in the midst of fighting between the national Army, on the one hand, and the militias of the Front for Alternation and Concord, on the other.

For his part, the opposition Masra, a former executive of the African Development Bank, pledged to create more jobs, with priority for young people, and prioritize access to electricity, water and security for all.

Also on the list is the opposition candidate Albert Pahimi Padacké, former prime minister, who came second in the 2021 presidential elections.

The polling stations in Chad, to which more than eight million voters were summoned, must open their doors this Monday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time, while the results of the popular consultation will be officially announced on the 21st. of this month.

If a second round of elections is necessary, it will take place on June 22, the ANGE noted.
