For the official, the situation in the south adds to the multiple crises that the country has faced since 2019 and demanded that all children be guaranteed access to education and protection from physical and mental harm, as well as the opportunity to prosper and contribute. to society.

In a press release, the Unicef director expressed concern about the situation of children and families displaced from their homes, after almost seven months of hostility in the nation.

By the way, Beigbeder stated that as long as the scenario remains so volatile, more children will suffer; and in that sense, she emphasized the obligation to guarantee the protection of the little ones according to international humanitarian law.

At this point, he indicated that the ongoing bombing in the south forced approximately more than 90 thousand people, including 30 thousand children, to leave their homes.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health, eight minors appear among the 344 people killed as a result of the Israeli attacks.

For their part, of the 1,359 citizens injured, 75 children suffered injuries since the beginning of the exchange of fire in October 2023.

At the same time, he added that more than 70 schools and 23 health centers remain closed due to constant Israeli bombardment.

According to Unicef, before the start of this conflict, Lebanon’s essential services, including the health and education systems, were already on the brink of collapse after years of being overstretched.

The unprecedented financial and economic crises exacerbated the vulnerabilities that have existed for five years in the country with a direct impact on the loss of jobs and income, high inflation and a shortage of services such as electricity and medicines, the Fund added.

In this regard, Unicef stated that, in collaboration with its partners, it provided vital aid to affected families with the delivery of vital medical supplies, hygiene and nutritional kits for displaced people living in collective shelters and communities throughout Lebanon.

During the current stage, the United Nations Fund provided fuel, water, tanks, winter clothing and blankets, in addition to providing, together with the Ministry of Social Affairs, unique emergency cash aid to meet the immediate needs of 85 thousand residents.

In this context, several internally displaced children were able to resume their education in public schools and received new school supplies and transportation assistance.
