The Navy of the Revolutionary Guard of Iran begins a mission in the southern hemisphere for the first time with the crossing of the ocean ship ‘Shahid Mahdavi’ of the equator line.

“The Iranian transatlantic ship ‘Shahid Mahdavi’, equipped with long-range ballistic missiles and 2,000 km range cruise missiles, crossed the Earth’s equator and entered the southern hemisphere”reported the Tasnim agency, linked to the Revolutionary Guard.

The mission is intended to “ensure the safety of shipping routes.”

This is the first long-range naval deployment of the elite military corps in terms of distance and type of mission.

The Revolutionary Guard Navy, which until now had had a notable presence in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, is seeking to extend that presence to oceanic waters.

For this task, the ship ‘Shahid Mahdavi’ He joined the Revolutionary Guard Navy in March 2023.

The ship, considered a “mobile maritime city”, with a length of 240 meters and a width of 27 meters, is capable of transporting all types of helicopters, drones and missile launchers, and has advanced radars, missile systems and other systems. advanced telecommunications.

On the other hand, in recent days the commander in chief of the Iranian Revolutionary GuardMajor General Hossein Salamistated this Wednesday that the April 13 attack on his country with hundreds of missiles and drones against Israel “can be repeated and is our equation”. Thus, the head of the elite military body referred to the attack with hundreds of missiles and drones launched on April 13 against Israeli territory, in response to the action attributed to Israel on April 1 against the Iranian consulate in Syria. , which caused the death of seven members of the Revolutionary Guard, including three generals.

Salami again described his country’s attack as “a limited action”, carried out with a “very small part of his great power”.

Still, the general said that France, the United Kingdom, Jordan, the United States and Israel, among others, acted “With all his strength” to repel Iran’s offensive.

According to Israel, 99% of the more than 300 Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted.

However, Salami assured that if Iran had launched a second wave of attacks “the effectiveness of this integrated defense system would decrease by at least 50%.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel are bitter enemies, posing a mutual existential threat and competing for regional hegemony.

Tehran is one of the main allies of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and leads the so-called “Axis of Resistance” against Israel, formed by the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels of Yemen, among others.
