The fish that fell were still alive, and even jumped as if they had just come out of the water. The video was taken in the Iranian city of Yasuj, after an intense storm in the small town, and is located approximately 280 kilometers from the nearest beach.

Why did it rain fish in Iran?

Raining fish is an extremely strange meteorological phenomenon to see, however, several cases have been recorded around the world. Before this, in 2021, Texas experienced a rain of fish.

Studies indicate that this happens when a small tornado absorbs fish from their habitat and transports them into a storm cloud, then falls along with the rain. In many cases, fish do not survive the impact when they fall to the ground or freeze when they pass through areas of low temperatures.

These small tornadoes occur when large amounts of rain and storms fall into the sea, generating whirlpools of water. Due to the movement of the clouds, it is normal for animals to fall in areas other than where the whirlpool originated, which could lift the animals into the sky.

Although the rain of fish is the best known, in history rains of other animals such as frogs, spiders and some crustaceans have been known, there was even a rain of snakes in Memphis, United States in 1877. There is also a record of rains of frogs, such as in Alicante, Spain, in 2007 and in Massachusetts, United States, in 1953.
