A group of North Korean defectors said this Thursday (06/06/2024) that they sent a dozen balloons with 200,000 propaganda leaflets against the North Korean regime across the border with South Korea, after Pyongyang sent balloons full of garbage the previous week.
Fighters for a Free North Korea leader Park Sang-hak explained that the leaflets flew from Pocheon (north of Seoul) and also contained banknotes and USB sticks loaded with K-Pop and trot music, according to details collected by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The action comes after the previous week the tension between the two Koreas increased with Pyongyang sending about a thousand balloons full of garbage to the South, as a response to the propaganda that anti-regime activists also send in balloons to the North.
After that, Seoul effectively suspended the inter-Korean military agreement signed in 2018 and on Wednesday announced that it would resume artillery exercises in border areas with the North.
The suspension of the Comprehensive Military Agreement allows the South to carry out military maneuvers along the border and reactivate the propaganda loudspeakers through which it launched critical speeches against the Kim regime or K-Pop songs from the dividing line.
