Concerned about the increase in cases of treatment of minors with gender dysphoria in the country, Republican deputies Agustín Romero and Stephan Schubert reported to the Ministry of Health.

The document is intended for the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, to whom the parliamentarians requested several points, in which details are requested about the controversial intervention and hormonal treatments administered to minors.

In this sense, the parliamentarians ask the Secretary of State to detail the current regulations that regulate this type of treatment, a description of the protocols followed by the public health institutions that carry out these treatments.

The details of all the criteria used for the diagnosis and recommendation of these hormonal and surgical treatments, as well as the studies used to form these criteria, are also part of the applications.

“It is important to know the real impact of hormonal and surgical treatments in minors. The Cass report, which was released in the United Kingdom, states that these treatments are causing irreparable harm to thousands of children,” said Deputy Romero, a member of the Health Commission.

The legislator added that due to the above “we have requested all the information available in our Health system on this issue. This information will be essential to evaluate the current situation.”

While the head of the Republican Caucus, Stephan Schubert, stated that “many questions arise. For example, what happens after starting hormonal or surgical treatment in minors with gender dysphoria? That is why we ask for information on the success rate, complications and side effects reported by these treatments.”

Along these lines, the text also requests the number of minors subjected to these treatments, in the last five years, information on the follow-up of the cases, “including success rates, complications and side effects.”

Along with the above, they also asked to know the results of the evaluations of these treatments, details about the psychological support for patients and their families, before, during and after the intervention.

Finally, Romero and Schubert asked Minister Aguilera to report on all procedures to ensure that informed consent is obtained, both from minors and their parents.
