The Cuban Government reiterated its determination to “evaluate all possible avenues” to establish closer ties with the BRICS — the economic and political alliance made up until now of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa —, in search of what the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, classified as “mutual benefits”, including the possibility of becoming an “associated state” of the group.

During his speech at the meeting of Brics foreign ministers, where he was invited by the Russian ally Sergei Lavrov, Rodríguez Parrilla said that his Government is “happily inserted in long-range initiatives promoted by member countries of the Groupsuch as the cases of the Belt and Road and other Chinese global initiatives and the projects of the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer member,” published the official newspaper Rebel Youth.

Furthermore, he said that The regime has maintained excellent relations with the founding members of the Groupas well as with those who recently joined and the countries invited to the meeting, held in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.

According to a MINREX note published on its website, Rodríguez Parrilla supported a BRICS declaration in support of Palestinefor the right to have its own State on the pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem and the return of refugees.

Also demanded the cessation of sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and the actions of NATO that according to BRICS and the minister seek to “stir up the conflict.”

In addition to thanking the position of the countries present at the meeting against the United States embargo, Rodríguez Parrilla praised the New Bank for the Development of the BRICS. He celebrated that the projects they have proposed to develop have indigenous financial support, based on the use of their own national currencies.

The BRICS represent more than 45% of the world’s population and a third of the planet’s GDP, he recalled. For the head of MINREX, “they are consolidated as a key player in global geopolitics, with growing relevance on a planetary scale and hope for southern countries in building a more just, equitable and sustainable multilateral international order”.

The regime’s chancellor will be received this Wednesday in Moscow by Sergei Lavrov, with whom he will analyze “issues related to the deepening of the bilateral strategic partnership,” reported the official Prensa Latina.

Upon arrival in the Russian capital, Rodríguez Parrilla and the delegation accompanying him stopped by the monument dedicated to Fidel Castro in the Sokol district and later visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
