Lula, who left the day before from Rio de Janeiro, will participate in the Inaugural Forum of the Coalition for Social Justice of the ILO, which will address the confrontation with social inequalities and the materialization of labor rights integrated into humans.

In addition, the expansion of capacity and access to productive means and the promotion of decent work will be topics of debate.

“I am going to the ILO as a representative of the workers,” said the president before embarking on his trip.

The meeting is an initiative of the director general of the ILO, Gilbert Houngbo, with whom the former union member will serve as co-president of the coalition.

Before the press, Ambassador Carlos Márcio Cozendey, Secretary of Multilateral Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that at this meeting the countries will present initiatives, projects and actions around these issues.

“After the opening, three panels will be held: Building the resilience of societies, Improving the coherence of economic and social policies, and Promoting social dialogue for prosperity,” he explained.

At the invitation of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, Lula will subsequently visit the Italian region of Apulia, where he will attend the G7 Summit, a group of the most industrialized countries in the world, made up of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy , Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU).

The founder of the Workers’ Party is invited for the eighth time to participate in the external segment of the group and tomorrow he will be received and give a speech.

The topics include Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean. He revealed that Pope Francis will be at the conclave and will be the initial speaker on Artificial Intelligence and Energy.

For his part, the president of the African Union (AU), Ould Ghazouani, will be the first speaker on his continent and the Mediterranean.

«A probable guiding axis of Lula’s speech during the speech on the 14th is how these issues relate to the Brazilian presidency of the G20 (group formed by the 19 largest economies in the world, the AU and EU), such as the launch of the Alliance Global Against Hunger, for example,” said Mauricio Lyrio, Secretary of Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.

He pointed out that the progressive leader will make a presentation of the Brazilian objectives linked to the digital economy, energy transition and promotion of peace.

Official sources confirmed that during his stay Lula is scheduled to have an audience with Pope Francis.
