A shocking incident occurred in India that has left more than one person with their mouths open, because Mumbai-based Dr. Orlem Brandon Serrao discovered a human finger in his Yummo ice cream. According to Indian Startup News, Serrao had asked his sister to include ice cream in her grocery purchases through the startup Zepto.
The doctor was traumatized to find something strange in his mouth, initially thinking it was a nut, but it turned out to be a human finger. Serrao shared his experience on social networks and assured that he did not ingest the finger.
“I ordered three ice cream cones through an app. One of them was Yummo brand candy. After consuming half of it, I felt a solid object in my mouth. “I thought it was a nut or a piece of chocolate, so I spit it out to check,” Dr. Serrao said.
“As a doctor he can identify that it was a part of a body. Upon closer examination, I noticed fingernails and fingerprints. It looked like a thumb. “I’m traumatized.” he added.
According to the same media, the doctor placed the finger in a bag with ice and filed a complaint with the Malad police. Senior police inspector Ravi Adane said a complaint was received about a piece of meat found in the ice cream. At the moment, the police have taken the fragment for investigation and have registered a case against Yummo under sections 272, 273 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code.
A case has been filed against Yummo for food adulteration and endangering human life. The ice cream has been sent for investigation and the finger for forensic analysis.
In response, Yummo Ice Creams stated that it will fully cooperate with the authorities. “We have stopped manufacturing at this third-party facility, isolated said product at the facility and in our warehouses, and we are in the process of doing the same at the market level,” said a company spokesperson in the ‘Indian Startup News’ media.
The company, co-founded by Walko Food Co. Ltd. in 2012, reiterated its commitment to product quality and safety, and mentioned that they were addressing the situation when the customer filed the official complaint with the police.
