The heavy rains that were recorded during the last few days affected about 180,000 people in vast areas of eastern and southern China and forced the evacuation of some 36,000 in the province of Fujian, in the southeast of the country.

According to the provincial flood control office, There are 179,800 affected and 12,350 hectares of crops damagedwhich represents direct economic losses worth 1,611 million yuan (222 million dollars).

Several hydrological stations located on 11 rivers in Fujian reported between Saturday and Sunday accumulations of water up to 3.65 meters above the alert level. This led the authorities of that province to declare a state of emergency, amid the intense rains that until Friday accumulated more than 100 millimeters in 386 municipalities.

Meanwhile, in Guangxi province in the south, rains caused 22 rivers to overflow their banks. The Hezhou hydrological station on the Hejiang River reported the largest flood in ten years.

Between the hardest hit cities include Hechi, Liuzhou, Yulin, Hezhou and Baiseaccording to the regional hydrology center, with accumulations of up to 140 millimeters in a single day in some of them.

The Ministry of Water Resources and the National Meteorological Administration issued orange alerts this Sunday for torrential rains in almost the entire country, especially in eastern, central and southern provinces such as Guangzhou, Sichuan or Yunnan, among others.

In the next 24 hours heavy rain and storms expected that could accumulate more than 70 millimeters per hour, in addition to lightning, thunder and intense winds, the authorities warned.
