Caracas, June 18 (EFE).- The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) asked this Tuesday the international community to condemn the “actions undertaken” by the United States for the “consummation of the illegal dispossession” of Citgo, the subsidiary of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) in the North American country.

Through a statement, the regional organization, made up of a dozen countries, “categorically” condemned the “actions of the US Government to strip Venezuela of its company” in the US.

According to ALBA, this “brazen action” deepens the “constant threat to the sovereignty and right to development of Venezuela, by materializing an unprecedented piracy aggression, with direct consequences on the well-being of the people” of the oil country.

In this sense, the alliance, of which Venezuela is a part, accused the US Government of having a “cynical and extortionate desire” to “suffocate the economy” of the South American nation, to which Washington, according to ALBA, denies the ” right to defense in the corresponding courts.”

“The member countries of ALBA call on the international community to denounce and condemn this imperialist action by the US administration, which seeks to seize assets that do not belong to it,” said the organization, which expressed its support for “all legal, diplomatic and political measures” that Venezuela takes.

This Monday, the Executive of Nicolás Maduro rejected the “dispossession process” of Citgo and assured that he will not recognize the “forced sale” of the company, considering that economic guarantees, due process and the right to defense are not met. .

Likewise, it stated that it will continue to adopt “all measures at its disposal” to avoid the “consummation of the definitive dispossession” of the subsidiary.

For its part, Nicaragua – also a member of ALBA – condemned this Tuesday the “illegal confiscation” of Citgo and expressed its solidarity with the Administration chaired by Maduro in the face of the “looting of its resources”, a statement that Venezuela appreciated.
