An eight-year-old girl and her younger brother, aged five, were the fatal victims of a tragic accident, in which a vehicle driven by a woman under the influence of alcohol attacked an events center where they were celebrating a children’s birthday.
The tragic event occurred on April 20 at a yacht club located in Newport, MichiganUnited States and, in addition to the two deceased children, another 15 people were injured with varying degrees of severity.

Woman to be tried on eight charges
The crash was recorded by the sector’s security cameras, revealing the level of destruction in the area’s surroundings. The car, which was left in the middle of the room, swept away glasses, balloons and the tables where the guests were sharing.
Last Thursday a judge determined that the only accused, Marshella Chidester66 years old, will be charged with eight charges and two of them correspond to second degree murder of the little ones Zayn and Alanah Phillipswho did not survive the impact.

According to a laboratory report presented as evidence in court, at the time he crashed into the yacht club, Chidester’s blood alcohol level was 0.18%twice the legal limit.
The defendant’s lawyer, Bill Colovoshas indicated that his client’s medical problems caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Specifically, he said that the woman suffers from neuropathy, which causes “epileptic-like seizures” in his legs.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Colovos maintains that Chidester “she is very sorry“and that he had only had a glass of wine while having lunch at a restaurant, but fainted due to his condition.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy, Steven Schmidttestified that Chidester failed several sobriety tests, could not maintain his balance and had watery, bloodshot eyes.
Marshella is currently out on bail after paying $1.5 million, but will have to return to court on July 12 for the start of her trial. If found guilty, she faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
