A prize on Friday and free entry on Saturday, the Fair is betting on the weekend

The organizers of the 48th Buenos Aires International Book Fair they bet everything to the first weekend of activity, although it coincides with the end of the month and there is not much rest for walks among Argentine families. Therefore, to celebrate the Night of the Fairthis Saturday the entrance will be – like every year at this festival – free after 8pm and the programming of activities looks especially seductive.

To start the celebrations, this Friday the jury composed of critics and academics announced the winner of the 2023 edition of the award that highlights the best argentine book of literary creation. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 8:30 p.m., in the Adolfo Bioy Casares room, and will be starred by Guillermo Piroauthor of The castaway without an islandedited by Interzona.

Piro is writer, journalist and translator. He was born on August 16, 1960 in Avellaneda and, for years, he has been dedicated to the reissue of the works of Héctor A. Murena of whom the Economic Culture Fund has already published an anthology under its care entitled Visions of Babel.

Under the presidency of the academic Santiago Kalinowskithe jury was made up of journalists and cultural leaders: Danilo Albero, Carlos Aldazábal, Graciela Aráoz, Natalia Blanc, Nelly Espiño, Leonor Fleming, Silvina Friera, Omar Genovese, Ignacio Iraola, Agustina Larrea, Antonio Las Heras, Hugo Levin , Mónica López Ocón, Adriana Lorusso, Cristina Mucci, Rafael Oteriño, Héctor Pavón, Flavia Pittella, Osvaldo Quiroga, Julia Saltzmann, Máximo Soto, Canela Gigliola Zecchín, Eugenia Zicavo and Patricio Zuni

The winner will receive the distinction from the El Libro Foundation and a prize of 500 thousand pesos. For its part, the publisher will also receive a plaque of distinction.

This way, Piro joins a list of winners which, in previous editions, distinguished Hernán Ronsino, Laura Ramos, Martín Kohan, Eugenia Almeida, Daniel Guebel, José Emilio Burucúa, María Moreno, Carlos Gamerro, Mauricio Kartun, Elvio Gandolfo, Tamara Kamenszain, Marcelo Cohen, Hebe Uhart, and many Other authors.

A Saturday of open doors

The Fair will have a more intense program every weekend and the first is no exception, with the addition that this Saturday, to celebrate the Night of the Fairadmission will be free after 8 p.m.

From that time, in addition to touring the pavilions, you can attend the ceremony redress to the discontinued cultural programs of Public TV The crazy 7 and another plot. The head of the El Libro Foundation, Alejandro Vaccaro, and the hosts Cristina Mucci and Osvaldo Quiroga will be present.

At 8:30 p.m., the writer Claudia Pineiro present his book Write a silence in dialogue with Sylvia Iparraguirre in the Julio Cortázar room.

The day will end in the José Hernández room at 9 p.m. with the concert Os surrealistas, by the Lisbon Poetry Orchestraa multidisciplinary collective made up of musicians who invite other artists to celebrate and perform poetry, on a truly unique journey of discovery and reinvention of the spoken word.
