The film reviews the almost two decades of the educational project of the La Merced Foundation in the Dominican Republic against child labor and has been carried out thanks to the participation of United Hands. Personalities such as the first lady of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Arbaje, have participated; the Spanish ambassador in the country, Antonio Pérez-Hernández y Torra and artists such as Freddy Ginebra or Elsa Núñez.

The Valencian journalist and documentary filmmaker Alberto Pla has been in charge of directing the production “we wanted to denounce through the film the situation of many boys and girls who work daily on the Dominican streets, but we were clear from the beginning that the focus would be on the La Merced project.”

The film, with a markedly positive character, reviews success stories like that of Juan Antonio Feliz. A young man who managed to stop shining shoes on the streets thanks to the educational opportunities of La Merced.

According to United NationsIn recent years, there has been a setback in global trends against the reduction of child labor. Conflicts, crises or the COVID-19 pandemic have aggravated the poverty situation of many families, forcing minors to resort to child labor.
