Within the framework of a new conference headed by Governor Axel Kicillof, the president of the Cultural Institute, Florencia Saintout, announced this Monday the launch of the second edition of the Buenos Aires Plan to Strengthen Books and Reading. This proposal has seven lines of action aimed at strengthening the publishing sector, popular libraries and book promotion spaces.

It is worth noting that announcements were also made on social and transportation policies with the participation of Government Ministers, Carlos Bianco; and Transportation, Jorge D’Onofrio.

“The economic measures carried out by the national government impact not only the promotion of culture, but also thousands of workers in publishing houses, bookstores and fairs,” said Saintout and detailed: “In the face of this, in the Province we deepen the support to this sector, because we understand that books and reading are a right and an axis of our identity.”

In this sense, the 2024 call is now open for the Support program for self-managed and municipal Book Fairs. These are funds destined for projects that generate this type of fundamental meetings for democratization, the promotion of reading and the stimulation of the cultural economy, where readers, editors, booksellers, reading promoters, librarians, illustrators and writers.

Self-managed Fairs can register in the following form. Meanwhile, the municipal ones have to register through the culture area of ​​each locality.

On the other hand, the Book and Reading Strengthening Plan includes the second purchase of copies from Buenos Aires publishers of the program More books for more; They are destined for Popular Libraries that are part of the provincial system and for non-conventional reading spaces in Buenos Aires territory. A purchase of 28,000 copies is planned from provincial publishers and national university publishers.

Meanwhile, in November the III Provincial Meeting of Popular Libraries, a space for reflection and exchange of the enormous movement of leaders, volunteers and professionals that make up the Popular Libraries. It seeks to build a common agenda, enhance the library system and networking to promote collective actions in each territory.

There will also be Second Buenos Aires Poetry Festival in October. This meeting aims to make visible the diversity and richness of the poetic production of the Province. For the second time, groups, projects and collectives linked to reading, writing, publishing and art in general will participate.

For its part, the call for applications for the first edition of the Néstor Perlongher Poetry Contest, which seeks to make known and disseminate voices of contemporary poetry and promote the diverse expressions that build the Buenos Aires identity. Among the jurors are Sergio Raimondi, Diana Bellessi and Roberta Iannamico.

The delivery of libraries will continue for each of the houses built by the Government of the province of Buenos Aires within the framework of Culture at Home.

Lastly, the Plan includes the School of Booksellers, Editors and Fair Organizers; In this second Edition, 2,800 people registered in the first semester. These are training sessions aimed at the sector with the intention of providing concrete tools through teachers with extensive experience.
