The Digicel Group announced Marcelo Cataldo as its new CEO after leading Tigo Colombia for more than 7 years following its debt restructuring.

Cataldo, who will be based in Kingston, Jamaica, will be joined by Leopoldo Gutiérrez as CFO and will replace Maarten Boute, who has served as interim CEO of the group and will return to his role as COO.

The manager, originally from Paraguay, has diverse international experience, in Latin America, the United States and Europe.

Before joining Millicom in 2010, he worked in various technology roles in the financial sector in Europe. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the Catholic University ‘Our Lady of the Assumption’ in Paraguay and an MBA from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain.

He arrives from Colombia, where he served as CEO and President since August 2016. During his tenure, The company delivered communications services to 16 million customers in the country and grew its postpaid customer base by 21 percent.plus its corporate digital services increased almost 35 percent last year.

Cataldo rose through the organization working in a variety of senior commercial, business development, and product and services positions. And since 2016, he has also been the leader of Tigo’s ESG strategy.

Among its key strategy drives are a strong focus on compliance and corporate governance and the Contigo Conectados corporate social responsibility program, which works to raise awareness of responsible Internet use and practices among children, adolescents, parents and teachers.

Digicel reached an agreement with bondholders to reduce its debt by $1.7 billion by early 2024, reducing its debt to about $3 billion.

In January, it completed the restructuring process, leaving its main debt holders with 62 percent of the group’s shareholding.
