When I was able to choose a seat for my flight to Seoul (South Korea) from Madrid (Spain), estimated to take 13 hours, I prioritized legroom over being at the window. I knew it was going to cause difficulties when taking photos and videos of the takeoff, but comfort won out.
The day came, I sat down in 45G and, after a while, a girl and a boy came next to me. From the beginning they were super friendly and invited me to leave my water bottle in the pocket of her seat, since I didn’t have one.
When takeoff came and they saw me intending to record, they told me to do it and they stuck to the backrest so as not to interfere with the window. By that time, they already seemed sweet to me. Shortly after, they tap me on the shoulder, apologizing, and bring an iPhone with AirDrop activated: they were offering me the videos and photos they had taken from the window. “Can you be more attentive to the human beings around you?” I thought. Truly, they surprised me.
Afterwards, we chatted for a little while and I told them that I was going to use them for the YouTube channel, they were shy (but okay) when I asked them by name to mention them.
What a genius AirDrop
In addition to the nice anecdote on a human level, I was surprised by how wonderful AirDrop is.. Being at ten thousand meters above sea level and being able to receive files from a stranger, whose name I could never read in the original language, seems almost like magic to me. Plus, it’s fast: it didn’t take me two minutes to have the content on my own device.
From what I read, something similar is being developed for Android phones, but I haven’t tried it.
