Within the framework of the 49th Congress of Travel Agents of the Argentine Federation of Associations of Travel and Tourism Companies (Faevyt) held in Puerto Madryn, the legal advisor of that entity, Cinthia Cortés, spoke about the situation of the activity after the change of Government and the decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) of President Javier Milei.

In that sense, he assured that during the pandemic, the agencies “went through the worst thing they could have gone through in their activity.” Thus, he encouraged the sector to maintain the resilience that characterizes them to face the new measures of the Executive Branch.

“Last December another crisis occurred, but it does not mean something terrible, but rather something that causes uncertainty and doubts and so on; What happened is that our country changed its government and brought a new modality,” said the lawyer.

Given this, he recalled that when the Executive DNU appeared, laws that involved travel agents were repealed, “deregulation.” At the same time, he defined the term as “to totally or partially eliminate the rules to which something in economic activity has to conform.”

Furthermore, he stressed: “Deregulation is intended to reduce State intervention in the economy.” At the same time, although he acknowledged that it is a change, he admitted that “until now there have been many” and anticipated that “there will always be.”

In that sense, he encouraged travel agents to “discover what is the new way to supervise and make it successful.” Under that framework, he acknowledged: “There is no longer the State that watches over you, now this area is you and I know that you are going to do it better,” according to El Messengero.

“If you went through the pandemic, this is much less, this is the opportunity to load up, add value to your own company without having to be accountable to anyone and I am sure that you will achieve it,” he said.

Given the deregulation that the agencies are going through, Cortés emphasized that prior to the DNU, news of scams, bankruptcies and passengers who were left unable to travel were abundant, even despite the regulation.

“Was anything previously detected? Was there a prevention task? No,” she remarked. In turn, he added: “There may be oversight, but different in deregulation, which is what occurs in many other countries.”

In this way, he highlighted the importance of the creation of the National Registry of Travel Agencies that is in the hands of Faevyt and how it grew in number of registered people. “They have to be there, because this is going to bring a lot of security to companies and consumers.”

“You are going to know who is in the game. Who works well and who does poorly. They have to realize that. In turn, they begin to write names as a brand, no longer as a fantasy. “This is encouraging creativity and maintaining the prestige that they brought together with their name,” she explained.

Likewise, he highlighted how important trust is, and even more so in the era of deregulation, because it is the basis of reputation, and it is what will make the passenger choose one agency or another.
