Eliot Paulina Sumner, Sting’s non-binary son, who stands out as an actor in ‘Ripley’

Ripley is one of the new features of Netflix and thus the famous novel that Patricia Highsmith titled Mr. Ripley’s Talent, has a new version, the first in series format. The previous two were cinematic: Full sun (1960), by René Clément and with Alain Delon as the protagonist; and in 1999, The talented Mr. Ripley, by Anthony Minghella and with Matt Damon in the lead role.

(From left to right) The protagonists of Ripley: Andrew Scott, Jhonny Flynn and Eliot Paulina Sumner, Sting’s son.

In Ripley –the series–, one of the characters that stands out beyond the protagonists is Eliot Paulina Sumner, one of the four children that Sting has with Trudie Styler; There are two older children from the first marriage of the leader of the legendary British band The Police.

What happened when singer Sam Smith declared he was non-binary?

In the series, Eliot Paulina Sumner plays Freddie Miles, the friend of Dickie Greenleaf, Tom Ripley’s main victim. In this version directed by Steven Zaillian, Sting’s son gives the character an appearance that makes one doubt whether it is a man or a woman who he chose to dress and act like a man. Furthermore, as he said Eliot, played Freddie Miles “a very observant and arrogant British man.”

The unexpected success of the new Netflix series: Ripley

Eliot Paulina Sumner is a non-binary person, He is 33 years old and is the only one of Sting and Trudie Styler’s children who was born in Italian Tuscany, where the couple usually spends most of the year. At age 5, Eliot had his first guitar, at 13 he wrote his first song and the next year, he put together his first band. He then focused on his studies without neglecting music to the point that at the age of 18 and while he was still studying, he recorded his first album with the Island Records label: The Constant. This served as his passport to participate in the famous Glastonbury Festival (UK) with his band I blame Coco. It should be noted that in the British musical ecosystem, Eliot was also known – in those years – as Coco Sumner. Years later, he released a new album, Information.

Eliot Paulina Sumner had a band I blame Coco, and under the name Vaal she “toured” as a DJ around Europe.

After a breaking moment with music because Eliot no longer felt the same way about recording, composing or going on tour, and after that impasse he found a new interest in house music that led him to work as a DJ with the Vaal stage name. Outside of the music scene, Eliot Paulina Sumner has other “lives”: she was a model for covers of several music and fashion publications. And she also adds acting, first with some small roles, and then in No time to diethe film with which Daniel Craig said goodbye to James Bond; and recently released, The Gentlementhe Prime Video series, directed by Guy Ritchie and with a cast that includes, among others, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant. And finally, Ripleythe series where Eliot Paulina Sumner shares the bill with Andrew Scott, Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn.
