Mirtha Legrand She was only 17 years old when she met the man who would become the great love of her life. It was 1945, and Mirtha, already a rising star, was working on the film “Five Kisses” directed by Luis Saslavsky. During filming, Daniel Tinayrea 35-year-old French film director, visited the set to see his friend Saslavsky.

Seeing him, Mirtha was impressed and asked: “Who is that handsome man who just entered?” The answer was simple but significant: “It’s Daniel Tinayre, Mirtha. A French director.”

The attraction was mutual. Daniel Tinayre, also impressed by the young actress, sent her a bouquet of two dozen red roses with a card that said: “Today has been an unforgettable day because I met her.” Mirtha, grateful for her gesture, called him to thank him for her and Tinayre wasted no time in inviting her out. Her first kiss occurred in the Palermo apartment where Mirtha lived, located in front of the Botanical Garden. Two months later, on the day Mirtha and her sister Goldie turned 18, the couple announced their engagement. The marriage took place three months later, on May 18, 1946, in the Church of San Martín in Tours, with Mirtha wearing black. “Everything fast. That’s love: I fell in love…”, the host recalled.

Mirtha and Daniel’s married life was intense and fruitful. Seven months after the wedding, Mirtha fainted in the middle of filming, discovering that she was pregnant with her first child, Danielito, who was born in August 1947. Three years later Marcela arrived. The family was completed with three grandchildren: Ignacio, Juana and Rocco. During their marriage, Mirtha and Daniel were inseparable in both their personal and professional lives. Tinayre, a talented director, screenwriter and producer, directed 23 films between 1934 and 1974, standing out in various genres from thriller to comedy. Among his most famous works are “In Cold Blood” (1947), “The Lady from the Sea” (1954) and “The Green Paradises” (1971).

Born Daniel Andrés Manoli Tinayre in Vertheuil, France, on September 14, 1910, Tinayre moved to Buenos Aires at an early age, where he developed a successful film career. In addition to directing, he worked as a screenwriter and producer, contributing significantly to Argentine cinema. His remarkable career earned him important awards, including the Silver Condor Award for Best Director in 1948 for “La dama del mar.”

In 1994, Tinayre became seriously ill. What started as a cold was diagnosed as Hepatitis B, and after 47 days in bed, she never recovered. She died on October 24, 1994, leaving a great void in the world of Argentine cinema and in Mirtha’s life. From her deathbed, Tinayre asked Mirtha to return to the channel and continue with her legendary lunches, which she did two weeks after her departure.
