Kings Felipe VI and Letizia have a special plan for next week. And it is a historic date for their mandate: the tenth anniversary since their coronation as kings. A decade has already passed since we witnessed the abdication of King Juan Carlos I and the transfer of powers to his son, Felipe VI, along with his wife, the queen consort, Letizia. After sharing their most special family pose to celebrate their wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago, the Monarchs have filled their official agenda to commemorate this anniversary, more official than their wedding.
For this reason, the Royal Family has communicated all the events that are expected to have the presence of the Monarchs to celebrate this important date on the calendar. And everything will begin on June 19 starting at 11 in the morning when the entire Royal Family will attend the Solemn Relay of the Royal Guard.
This event will go beyond the handover, and before giving the official handover, it is planned that there will be a parade of troops along the Calle Mayor of members of the three Armies and the Civil Guard. All this under the watchful eye of the four members of the Royal Family from the balcony of the Royal Palace, just like what happened ten years ago but this time without King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia.
Afterwards, the family will go to the Hall of Columns of the Royal Palace where the imposition of decorations of the Order of Civil Merit where King Felipe VI will give a speech in which he is expected to review his ten years in office. An official lunch will also take place at the Palace, attended by authorities and distinguished celebrities of all kinds.
At night, the Royal Guard Band is scheduled to give a concert in the Plaza de Oriente with Ara Malikian as the star guest. However, this is not on the agenda of the Royal House so it may not have the presence of the Royal Family. What the Royal House has recorded, at night, there will be a meeting with young people with whom they will take a walk through the Gallery of the Royal Collections of the Royal Palace of Madrid. And art will be very present. On Thursday, June 20, the kings, this time without his daughters, will inaugurate the exhibition ‘Philip VI: a decade in the history of the Crown of Spain’ in the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Princess Leonor’s resignation
On this special date, King Felipe VI and Letizia will have their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, with them. While the princess has already been able to take the holidays at her boarding school in Wales, the heir to the kings of Spain has had to abandon his studies at the Royal Academy of Zaragoza for one day. And not just any day. Precisely this Monday the end of the course was celebrated and, with it, an event will be held to which the princess will not be able to attend to protect her parents.
