Wow, 2024 has given us several surprises on a musical level, as several bands and artists that we love released albums after a long time in silence. However, there were those who quietly released songs without making so much noise. Such is the case of Air, who returned after a decade without new music to collaborate with an up-and-coming artist.

As you will remember, It was in 2012 when the French duo released their most recent album, The journey in the moon. Although to be exact, The last work released by Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel was Music for Museuman album recorded in 2014 commissioned by the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille as part of its Open Museum project.

Air returned to collaborate on Remy Bond’s new song

Since then, The members of Air dedicated themselves to their solo projects. And yes, of course we are excited because we will have them back after almost six years to play the entire album. Moon Safari at the Hipnosis 2024 festival, But we were also surprised because the group released new music fresh out of the oven.… or something like that.

It turns out that Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel collaborated on “Summer Song”, the most recent single by the artist Remy Bond. For those who don’t know this girl, she played Tina Fey’s daughter in a couple of episodes of 30 Rock. However, She is now starting her career as a singer-songwriter and she is surrounding herself with great musicians, including the members of the French duo.

We say it because Dunckel is one of the five co-writers of this song and, according to Stereogumboth members of Air play on the song. Although they did not have a hand in the production, since that work was done by Jules Apollinaire, a collaborator of Suki Waterhouse. The result is a song with a dreamy melody that at times, along with Romy’s voice, reminds us of something that Lana Del Rey could have done.

“It’s very much an American song lyrically, reminiscent of the late 60s and early 70s. I have endless love for Sharon Tate and American sweethearts of the time, but I didn’t want it to be apple pie. So I reached out to Air, who brought new elements and sounds, and my British producers, who brought an experienced perspective to the project.”

As if this were not enough, The official video for “Summer Song” is also influenced by a film in which Air participated, as they took the visual aesthetics as inspiration. The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola (film for which the duo composed the soundtrack) both for the song and the video clipAnd yes, that is clearly evident in this single by Remy Bond, which is shaping up to be a great success.

As we mentioned before, the French will return to Mexico to play Moon Safari from start to finish at the Hipnosis festival alongside Slowdive and The Kills (here we tell you all the details) and although it is not exactly their first song in more than a decade, it is interesting to hear that they returned to the studio to collaborate with a new artist.
