Devoting yourself to medicine is vocational, but also, in some cases, it has a lot to do with family inheritance, with DNA, especially if you were born in a family where your father and mother are dedicated to that beautiful profession that is cure and take care of people, either because they are doctors or because they are nurses. It is for this last reason that there are families in which being a doctor is a constant in different generations.

This is the case of Almudena and Pedro Tárraga, children of Pedro Tárraga, family doctor and medical coordinator of the Zona 5A health center, as well as president of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Castilla-La Mancha and associate professor of the subject of Medicine of Family and Community of the Faculty of Medicine, who have decided to follow the family tradition in this case of their father and do the MIRen Family Medicine, a specialty that has always been among their first options to do the stage of specialized health training.

And in the case of these two young people, they have experienced Family Medicine from the cradle. Since they were little and went to visit their father’s office or health center, they have seen what it means to be a doctor at the first level of care, even in rural areas, where practicing this profession today becomes a great feat. The closeness and follow-up of the patient throughout their vital life process are two qualities of this specialty that make it more attractive for Almudena and Pedro, also for all the talented young doctors like these two doctors from the Faculty of Medicine of Albacete who this year All of them have decided to stay in the capital and the province to do their MIRen Family Medicine stage, exhausting the choice of specialty in the first days, unlike what happened in other places in the national territory where there have been vacant positions.

While Pedro Tárraga has gone to the Alicante hospital of San Juan to carry out his stage as a resident doctor, which began precisely this week, Almudena Tárraga remains in her father’s town, in the GAI of Almansa, where her sister already works as a nurse. elderly.

Having studied his degree in Albacete, Pedro was clear that he wanted to go abroad to do the MIR and the choice of Alicante is because it coincides with a colleague who has started Urology. A stage that he faces with responsibility and respect for facing the patient.

Pedro Tárraga states that “during the degree, the specialty of Family Medicine is little seen and the internships are scarce, we only have two weeks, one in fifth and one in sixth (which is mandatory), which is why many people do not know it.”

In his case, he acknowledges that he was lucky enough to rotate as an elective subject at a health center in Carcelén, “and there I saw another type of medicine, something that made me clear about my specialty.”

Almudena Tárraga, unlike her brother, has begun her training with a backpack of knowledge on her back, which has given her by working for two years as part of one of the Unit’s assessment teams at the Base Center without any specialties, of course. It was this year when she got a place for her specialization. “Although my work has been more of an expert opinion, at times it has resembled a Primary consultation,” she added.

Almudena had a second option, Forensic Medicine, because like his brother in sixth grade, he rotated through both Forensic and Family and that tipped the balance towards the option of the first level of care.

“When I finished my degree I started to work, I was clear about it and I prepared the MIR while I was working, because I got tired of studying, and I immediately looked for a job and started working,” said Almudena, who said that “working has made me given a lot of satisfaction.

Both assure that the choice of Family Medicine is also due to the fact that “it has many professional opportunities, it is a very complete specialty”, because you can opt for many services, such as 112, Palliative, Emergencies, in addition to Primary Care.

For Almudena and Pedro’s father, having his children follow the family tradition and do Family Medicine “has made me very excited,” and although he encourages them to make the most of this stage, he states that they are already knowledgeable in the specialty, “the “They have lived since they were children, they know what the consultation is like, even Almudena has experienced rural medicine during my time when I practiced in Casas de Ves.”
