The popularity of Fierce Tango It remains as valid as at its premiere. Become a classic of Argentine filmography, loved to this day since its debut in theaters on June 3, 1993, the film continues to cross generations with the story of love, fall from grace and rock of Tanguito and Mariana. The documentary fierce legend gathered Cecilia Dopazo already Fernan Miras, as well as the entire team, in a tribute that revisits the film. The actress in a talk with Teleshow He told how he lives that everlasting success.
“This recognition is very nice. A tribute to all of us who participated in the film and also to those who saw it, felt moved and it became an important part of their lives. “Finally we formed a whole community of all of us who loved her,” he opened up about the documentary. Denise Urfeig and Mariano Frigerio which was presented on Monday at the Bafici and which Fernán could not attend, in the middle of filming a movie.
“It arose from two filmmakers like Mariano and Denis who loved the film when they saw it. I think he saw it when she was 13 and loved it. That ended up being the germ of the project,” said Cecilia, who is happy that the film continues to conquer new audiences with its remastering in 2014, its inclusion on streaming platforms and the commercial premiere on May 9 of the documentary that features testimonies of its director Marcelo Piñeyro, Leo Sbaraglia, Imanol Arias, David Lebon, Federico D´Elíaamong others.
“The film was especially embraced by teenagers and young people because it expresses a moment in life that is very romantic, where one feels that everything is possible and that all paths can be taken. It is very well told and also portrays a time where values were very different from the time when it was released in 93″, she reflected.
“The way the world and the country were at the end of the 60s were very different from what was being experienced in 93 with Menemism. The film goes out to say ‘everything can’t be bought, everything can’t be sold’ when we were at a time when it was the complete opposite. What was proclaimed was ‘you are worth as much as you have’ and that hit very hard with youth. Furthermore, it is a film that is very well made, that brought national rock closer to those who did not know it, valued it and put it on stage again. The success of Tango Fierce is multifactorial,” he highlighted.
Cecilia, in those years, was a recognized actress thanks to the popularity of the soap opera. Treble clef and stronger roles in units such as Dare by Alejandro Doria. For the role of Mariana she competed with other actresses who auditioned for the same role, just as Fernán did with the role of Tango for which Benicio del Toro was even cast. “It was a crazy thing. At that time it seemed like it could be a co-production with Canada and the United States,” he recalled.
Today the actress remembers the moment when she was welcomed to the project. “It was one of the happiest days of my life, as was it when they gave me the script and I read it before casting. I read it and I was fascinated, amazed, super moved. I said to myself ‘if I could do this, I would go crazy’. And finally, she gave herself.”
“It was one of the biggest projects that the country gave in cinema at that time. I was 22 years old. The book was by Aida Bortnik and Marcelo Piñeiro. “It was a fortune that happened to me, something unusual, never ever dreamed of,” he said honestly, about a project that was 5 years in development and through which, he assures, many protagonists passed through who were discarded as the film continued to be revealed.
Cecilia’s sex and nude scenes, like Fernán’s, continue to challenge the most conservative eyes even today. “There was a huge percentage of the audience that were 13-year-old boys who escaped from school to see it. So, in many cases it was the first encounter they had with naked adult bodies. I come across many testimonies from people who approach me or write to me on Instagram and tell me that it was the first encounter they had with naked bodies that were not their own. “That is something very relevant and very important for a teenage boy,” she highlighted.
Did you regret going from being the girl on TV to the sex symbol of an entire country? “Not at all. The nakedness was very appreciated,” she said, amused. “At that time there weren’t that many movies with nudity. It wasn’t that common. She also, in a fairly minor way, drew attention to the beautiful photography she has and because it is a visually very beautiful scene. She tells of the intimacy that she begins to have with this couple who is getting to know each other. In fact, nudes are not common today,” she highlighted.
Her reunion with the rest of the actors, with whom she shared some subsequent projects, was pleasant, but the actress chooses happiness rather than melancholy when remembering the film, which is one of the most watched in the national filmography. “I feel that the film is very alive. To answer your question, I don’t have any nostalgia for having been stuck there. Luckily, from that moment on, it was a huge launching pad. I will always be grateful to him,” she concluded.
