Art and Culture Activities :: JAPAN MADRID FOUNDATION

Hiroaki Umeda – Somatic Field Project presents the pieces assimilating and Moving State 1 at the Conde Duque Cultural Center Theater on July 24 and 25 as part of the Guest Country: Japan program of Veranos de la Villa co-organized by The Japan Foundation.

Since the creation of his company S20, Hiroaki Umeda’s subtle but violent dance pieces have traveled around the world with great critical and public success – he has already been to Madrid three times – and have positioned the multidisciplinary creator and artist as one of the main figures of the Japanese avant-garde art scene. Umeda is known for his highly holistic artistic methodology with strong digital background, which considers not only physical elements such as dance, but also optical, sensory and, above all, spatio-temporal components as part of the choreography.

Now he arrives at Veranos de la Villa to present his two most recent choreographies: assimilating and Moving State 1, within the festival programming that has Japan as a guest country. The first of them embodies Hiroaki Umeda’s concept of behavioral design as a dance work. Movement, previously defined as dance, is determined by attitude. The dynamics that arise from the body of each individual construct the space. In the second, Umeda delves into the concept of dance and the human body as natural phenomena, caused by the relationship between various factors. The body expands and disappears at the same time, it is the presentation of the artist’s vision and thoughts about the beings of the body and movement.
