Everybody dance (Footloose), an epochal film from the 1980s, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special event at the Tribeca Film Festival. Kevin Bacon, the protagonist of the romantic drama, could not be missing from the tribute activity, who shared various anecdotes with the audience, such as his reaction when he was reunited with images that made him travel through his memories.

Bacon explained that he recently found a DVD that contained, as bonus content, the video of his screen test for the role of Ren McCormack. “I was stunned to see that person,” he commented, referring to his own “self” from his youth.

“There was something about the audition that really allowed me to see a much younger version of myself.”. The actor explained that the sensation was different from seeing himself in a movie, because what he observes in those shots is “the character he played.” With his audition video, what he felt was that he was watching a genuine, homemade clip.

“I’ve literally never done this before, but I paused it, went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Are you the same guy as that guy over there?’ It was very strange, it was a very strange experience” Bacon reflected.

The strange thing is that I didn’t understand the magnitude of the dance from the script” Bacon confessed. “When they told me I would have to audition for dance, I was surprised. I said I love dancing; I have danced since high school because I like girls. So I said I don’t need a choreographer, just put on music and cameras and I’ll dance.”

The producers told him, “No, you don’t understand what we’re looking for here.”

The celebration of the 40th anniversary of Footloose It arrived shortly after his return to Payson High School in Utah, the educational center where the film was filmed. After months of campaigning by the students, the actor finally agreed to visit the school on April 20.
