Inhabitants of Cauca have revealed the deep disappointment and deterioration of the social and economic situation in Suárez, Cauca, place of origin of Vice President Francia Márquez. More than a year and a half since Márquez took office, the residents of Suárez continue to deal with severe adversity, feeling abandoned and neglected by her own compatriot.

As revealed by Semana who traveled to the area, the vice president, who had generated great expectations among young people and the population in general for the change promised together with President Gustavo Petro, seems to have not fulfilled the aspirations of her people.

Residents of Suárez face a heartbreaking dilemma: engaging in coca cultivation or illegal gold mining, activities that threaten their well-being and environment.

The community of Suárez, marked by the presence and dominance of the FARC dissidents commanded by Mordisco, expresses a feeling of betrayal and abandonment.

The local economy is paralyzed, insecurity and fear have taken over daily life, and public infrastructure shows signs of neglect, particularly when it comes to the maintenance of essential roads.

Residents’ testimonies reflect deep discontent with Márquez’s management, accusing her of privileging infrastructure development in areas of personal interest over community needs.

The transformation of the mural dedicated to Márquez, once a symbol of hope, into an anonymous white wall, symbolizes the fading of the support and trust that the community had placed in it.
