El Saladillo awaits those thirsty for history
A few days ago, a new edition of the walk under the moonlight was held on the grounds of the El Saladillo Natural and Archaeological Park, which will open its doors to all its visitors this weekend of XXL.
Dozens of people enjoyed the guided tour, touring the ruins of the Estancia, its surroundings and learning about the vast history of the place. “It is a highly recommended experience,” said María, one of the participants from Santa Fe who visits La Rioja for the XXL weekend.
In addition to local visitors from Capital, Chilecito, Sanagasta and Chamical, tourists from Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Jujuy, Santa Fe, Catamarca and Misiones and from other countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Poland and Italy joined. The next walk will take place in April, on the night of the full moon.
Over the place
An impressive natural reserve that contains valuable historical, tourist and archaeological heritage where Estancia la Saladilla is located. It covers the pre-Hispanic and colonial periods with vestiges of crop sectors, mortars, canals and foundations of homes of native peoples, as well as the ruins of the mansion, founded in 1635 by the Jesuit order where tiles were manufactured in imposing ovens.
The El Saladillo Natural and Archaeological Park is located 11 kilometers from the center of the city of La Rioja, continuing along Ramírez de Velasco Avenue to the northwest, on the way to Juan Caro.
Open every day of the year from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entry to the Park for Riojans and residents of the entire province costs 1,000 pesos and 2,000 pesos for tourists. Discount for retirees and pensioners.
All visitors can choose three types of tours: Self-guided, along the paths delimited by the place. This tour has no additional cost; Free guided tours, lasting approximately 45 minutes through the Estancia and the Park. Daily departures at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Private guided tours, in this service you can hire guides for special and personalized tours, at an additional cost.
It is the first house to appear with this style in La Rioja, which has a basement and a wood stove, with a flat roof in a construction system that had been invented 20 years earlier in London.
One of the aspects documented in this place is the presence of native peoples with extended families who occupied spaces separated by about 200 meters and who dedicated themselves to hunting and gathering.
The house had a great impact on the population due to the shape it has, then came the 1894 earthquake and the reconstruction of La Rioja was done based on this style.
Furthermore, the Jesuits settled in this area, and in their evangelizing, educating and productive tasks, they built a ranch that was dedicated to the manufacture of lime, jars and tiles.
