The General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR)through the Port Captaincy of Riohacha, held registration days for small artisanal fishing vessels in the municipalities of Camarones, Dibulla and Manaure, in the department of La Guajira.
In total, 20 small boats belonging to the artisanal fishing communities and indigenous communities of the region were registered., in compliance with the regulations that the Colombian Maritime Authority promotes to protect human life at sea, exercise control and monitoring of small vessels. and contribute to the protection of the marine environment and the prevention of accidents during navigation.
This initiative was carried out in coordination with the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority (AUNAP), with the aim of formalizing maritime activities and guaranteeing the safety of those who navigate in the waters of the region.
The Port Captain of Riohacha, Lieutenant Carlos Ramírez, highlighted the importance of all vessels, regardless of their size, complying with the legal and safety requirements established by DIMAR.

“It is essential that all vessels, regardless of their size, comply with the regulations established by Dimar, to guarantee the safety of those who navigate in our waters and as part of the efforts being carried out for the formalization of maritime activities”stated the officer.
The Colombian Maritime Authority will begin to work with local authorities to guarantee the safety of small ships and other vessels, implementing inspection, monitoring and verification devices that allow preventing emergencies and protecting human life in the country’s seas and rivers.
