The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies Ideam declared a red alert due to the threat of a landslide in the following municipalities of Tolima:
Carmen de Apicalá, Casabianca, Coyaima, Cunday, Fresno, Herveo, Honda, Ibagué, Icononzo, Melgar, Ortega, Palocabildo, Prado, Purificación, Rovira, San Antonio, San Luis, San Sebastián de Mariquita, Villahermosa and Villarrica.
On orange alert are Anzoátegui, Armero, Ataco, Cajamarca, Chaparral, Coello, Dolores, El Espinal, Falan, Guamo, Lérida, Lebanon, Murillo, Natagaima, Planadas, Rioblanco, Roncesvalles, Santa Isabel, Suárez, Valle de San Juan, Lebanon.
The Secretary of Environment and Risk Management, Ericka Marcela Lozano, explained that “the red alert is the high probability of landslides and/or collapse, that is, downhill movements of a mass of soil or rock, of the earth. As for the orange alert, it is the moderate probability of this type of landslide occurring, but it can still be moved to a red alert level.”
