Putre, Codpa and the San Marcos Cathedral of Arica will be the stages where the string ensemble will perform on June 30, 31 and 1 within the framework of the XI Festival of South Andean Arica Barroca Art.

Seeking to bring free cultural activities to the diverse landscapes and communities of the Arica and Parinacota region, the XI Arica Barroca South Andean Art Festival will present between May 30 and June 1, a series of concerts performed by the Orchestra of the Chamber of the Municipal Theater of Santiago, in Putre, Codpa and in the San Marcos cathedral, in the heart of the city of Arica.

After almost 30 years, a concert by the Municipal Theater of Santiago returns to the heights of the region, since the last presentation it gave in Visviri in the 1990s; this time, with a completely young generation made up of 22 violin, cello, viola and double bass players from different regions of the country.

Carmen Gloria Larenas, general director of the Municipal Theater of Santiago, comments that “for musicians it is always a great joy to reach new audiences and new spaces, and also in this case to this festival of such prestige and importance.”

In their repertoire, there is a selection of classical and baroque musical works that will be played free of charge for the entire community of the region and that “has been specially designed to fit harmoniously into this festival dedicated to the baroque. The expectation is always to reach people’s hearts and generate a true and honest bond with these young artists.”

“The participation of the Chamber Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Santiago, thanks to an agreement it holds with the Ministry of Culture, is an excellent opportunity to carry out a virtuous exchange of knowledge, expand audiences and support a festival that articulates different disciplines and cultural elements from the extreme north of the country,” indicated Kateryn Garzón, SEREMI of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

Putre will be the first town to receive the orchestra, with more than 3,400 meters above sea level it is the most populated after the capital city of the region, with more than 1,400 inhabitants. It is located 141 kilometers away from Arica, and stands at the foot of the Taapaca volcano, with an agricultural and livestock community. The orchestra will perform at the Ferán venue on Thursday, May 30 from 12:00 hrs.

The next day, the orchestra will cross the foothills through route A-31 to reach the town of Codpa, in the commune of Camarones, at more than 1,800 meters high, where they will find a valley full of their own products and characteristics, like its Pintatani wine. Here the orchestra’s presentation will be on Friday, May 31, starting at 12 noon. in the town square.

“Enjoying chamber music will be a significant and enriching experience for our boys and girls in the commune. We are very happy to open the doors to this musical show, because it promotes comprehensive development and stimulates their creative abilities. It reduces inequalities in access to culture, which is a commitment of our management,” said Cristián Zavala, mayor of the commune of Camarones.

On Saturday, June 1, the front of the San Marcos Cathedral, an iconic attraction of the Arican heritage site, will be the stage where the Chamber Orchestra will close this tour, where starting at 8 p.m. it will play before the entire community of the city. city ​​of Arica, to close the festival.

Series of concerts that will be held within the framework of the 11th edition of the Arica Barroca South Andean Art Festival, which will take place between May 29 and June 1, a festival dedicated to celebrating art and southern Andean identity, with a variety of panoramas, such as art galleries, heritage tours, a business fair with regional identity, talks, meetings and concerts.
