Three soldiers lose their lives in clashes in southern Cauca • La Nación

The National Army reports the death of three soldiers in combat in southern Cauca, during operations to guarantee the return of displaced inhabitants. Additionally, three uniformed officers were injured.

The National Army confirmed the death of three professional soldiers in the midst of the heavy fighting that took place in the last few hours in the village of Bolivia, jurisdiction of the municipality of Argelia, in the south of the department of Cauca.

According to the authorities, the troops were carrying out operations to guarantee the return of more than 400 displaced inhabitants of the San Juan del Cucho, San Juan de Guadua and Bolivia villages.

The deceased are the soldiers Jorge David Fuentes, a native of Valledupar, César; Javier Sosa Ballesteros, from La Mesa, Cundinamarca; and Camilo Andrés Molina, from Galeras, Sucre. Three other uniformed officers were injured and will be evacuated from the area to receive specialized medical care.

Hours before the clashes, the capture of five members of the Carlos Patiño structure had been confirmed, from whom weapons, explosives, ammunition and administration material were seized.
