In order to analyze the situation in the country, governors from the north have been holding meetings for weeks within the framework of the Great North Summit, which brought the governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, to Jujuy this Friday.

The Cuyo president will be the main speaker at the conference “The Homeland was forged from the North”, which will take place starting at 7 p.m. at the José Hernández Educational Complex and in which the former governor of Salta, Juan Urtubey, will also participate.

The talk was organized by the Frente Amplio Jujeño and will be the first of the summits planned to be held during these months.

Upon arrival, Quintela was received by his Jujuy counterpart, Carlos Sadir, and the meeting was reflected in a photo. However, it is not known if there was an official meeting between the two.

Quintela, unlike what happens in Jujuy, declared lithium as a strategic natural resource in 2022 and created the company Kallpa Sapem (Limited Company with Majority State Participation) for the “exploration and exploitation of lithium” with the intention of extracting the material, in addition to the manufacture of lithium batteries, for which it already signed an agreement in October 2023 with the Chinese company CCG Mining Argentina. In the case of our province, the provincial State barely has 8.5% of control of the Sales de Jujuy company, through JEMSE.

Both Jujuy, La Rioja and Salta have in common the challenge of exploring lithium in the midst of territorial conflicts with indigenous communities (as occurs in Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc), as well as complaints about the use of water and its impact on environment.
