The young man, 26 years old, who lost his life after suffering a tragic traffic accident on the road leading to the Perales Airport, in Ibagué, was identified as Felipe Patiño.

The accident occurred last Thursday night, April 25, when Patiño lost control of his motorcycle, with license plate UVY-34, allegedly due to speeding and strongly impacted a tree after leaving one of the roundabouts. of the sector.

Preliminary versions indicate that the young man died instantly; However, several ambulances arrived at the site and medical personnel tried to help him.. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save his life, the crash was fatal and there was no time to transport him to a medical center.

“An unfortunate event left the local community in mourning when a 26-year-old young man lost his life in a traffic accident on the road to the airport, specifically at kilometer 2 plus 342. According to preliminary reports, the tragic incident occurred due to an apparent excess of speed by the driver, who collided with a fixed object,” said Johana Catalina Díaz, Secretary of Mobility in Ibagué.

‘Chamizo’, as Felipe was known by some family and friends, was apparently participating in the ‘illegal pickets’ that are usually carried out in this area that leads to the Perales Airport.

This tragic event was attended to by uniformed members of the Ibagué Metropolitan Police and traffic personnel, who carried out urgent actions in the area and transported the body to the Forensic Medicine morgue.

The case has sparked a debate about the importance of not carrying out this type of activity, since it puts the lives of young people at risk, in addition to respecting traffic rules and driving with caution.

It is worth mentioning that a week ago, on Thursday, April 18, the authorities carried out a large operation in this sector. That day they imposed 55 ‘comparendos’ and immobilized 19 vehicles in the midst of the ‘illegal pickets’.
