Ciudad Real, April 27 (EFE).- The bullfighting critic of the EFE Agency Julio César Sánchez has rescued in a book the endearing story of the suitcase José María Medina, known as the Niño del Tentadero, in which, through a story starring in the first person, he tells his experiences around the world of bullfighting, in decades in which in order to succeed or make a living from this profession it was necessary to overcome an entire ordeal.

In an interview with EFE, Julio César explained that in ‘The fatigues of a suitcase’, which was presented this Saturday in Ciudad Real – on the day before the great bullfighting celebration scheduled for the reopening of the capital’s bullring La Mancha-, narrates the hardships, sufferings and torments suffered by that young man who aspired to make his way in bullfighting.

Thus, the book is the sum of a series of stories starring the Niño del Tentadero, which could be read in installments in the newspaper Lanzadigital.com during last winter.

The interest that this publication aroused in digital format, in which the stories of that young man were told, whose life changed completely after seeing a film by Palomo Linares in a summer cinema in his town, has now led the bullfighting critic to publish it in paper format, under the editorial seal of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council.

As he explained to EFE, the genesis of the book arose after the intervention of the bullfighter Aníbal Ruiz, who a year and a half ago told him that one of his trusted banderilleros wanted to start writing his memoirs, which contained curious stories, not exempt from drama, but, at the same time, full of unique and endearing experiences.

Julio César Sánchez, who had already published an interview with the banderillero in 2002 in which José María Medina himself had told him about some of his adventures, has now been able to delve deeper into the life experience of someone who one day, at 17 years, he decided to leave his home in a small town in La Mancha, leaving his family behind, to pursue the dream of being a bullfighter.

His experiences, which took place throughout the national geography, from Madrid to Salamanca or Palma del Río (Córdoba), where he also arrived with the desire to know the town of another great bullfighter who triumphed in the world of bullfighting, such as El Cordobés, They are part of the story of this book, which deals with remembering the moments before he managed to establish himself as a banderillero.

Julio César Sánchez has commented that the charm of this book lies fundamentally in the fact that the stories and experiences of José María Medina “are as hard as they are true.”

“There is nothing fictional, I wish there was some fiction, but what he went through in those moments, and which now with the passage of time may seem difficult to imagine, and even make us laugh, it must have been very difficult to experience at first.” person,” he stated.

The presentation of the book was attended by the president of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, Miguel Ángel Valverde; the mayor of the city, Francisco Cañizares, and the protagonist himself, José María Medina, who has been proud to be able to see part of his personal history reflected in this book.
