The Executive Director of the Palestinian Community of Chile, Diego Khamis, met today with Guy Ryder, Deputy Secretary General of the UN and former Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), who attended on behalf of the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, to a meeting to talk about the war in Gaza.
In the meeting, which lasted 45 minutes, Khamis gave Ryder a letter addressed to the Secretary General of the multilateral organization, António Guterres, where, among other things, gratitude was expressed for the position of the organization and the efforts of the Secretary General, for “a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the entry of humanitarian aid and the stopping of flagrant violations of international legality by Israel.”
The letter also paid “special tribute to the brave UN officials who have lost their lives since October in the line of duty,” and recognized the important role played by the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency in the Middle East. (UNRWA) for the lives of Palestinians.
In addition, the Palestinian Community of Chile gave a T-shirt from the Palestine Sports Club with the inscription “Guterres” on the back.
Since October 7, representatives of the Palestinian Community have held meetings with various world leaders and personalities, including the Palestinian leader Hanan Ashrawi, rector of the University of Glasgow, Ghassan Abu-Sitta; former presidents Ricardo Lagos, Michelle Bachelet and SebastiánPiñera; and the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, among others.
The organization that brings together the Palestinian institutions of Chile, has participated in important related international events such as the “Annual Palestine Forum” held in Doha, Qatar, in February, and the presentation of the Executive Director, Diego Khamis, before the UN, in its Geneva headquarters last month.
