This was reported by activists and organizations on social networks, who denounced his arbitrary detention, as well as the immigration regulation that weighs on the artist and that prevents him from traveling freely outside the Island.
“Today, May 3, 2024, around 4 in the afternoon, the Cuban musician, composer and political activist Gorki Luis Águila Carrasco headed to the Havana International Airport to travel to Mexico. After informing him that he could not travel because he was REGULATED, he was arrested by the security of the Castro state, and we still do not know his whereabouts,” his former bandmate reported on Facebook, Ciro Javier Díaz Penedo.
For its part, the 4Métrica Foundation, promoter of Human Rights and more open and democratic societies in the Americas, also echoed the musician’s arrest and denounced the constant harassment that Águila Carrasco suffers from State Security.
“There are countless human rights violations that have been suffered in recent years. The Cuban regime prevents him from appearing with his band, monitors him with a camera in front of his apartment, has detained him repeatedly and repeatedly cuts off his internet connection,” the non-governmental organization indicated.
In that sense, the 4Métrica Foundation made “a call to the international community to speak out and reject the detention of Gorki and all the artists who are detained in Cuba.”
