On May 4, 1976, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, visited the Mineral Water Bottling Plant, which had just come into operation, and then went to the Spa in the town of Ciego Montero itself, an institution serving Health. in Cienfuegos.
Regarding the anniversary, in El Chorrito, the international meeting Presencia de Paulo Freire will be held, in which its participants not only remember the famous pedagogue, but also take an approach to the sociocultural life of the territory, with tours and theoretical events in different sites.
In the speech given by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro at the inauguration of the Doctor Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Clinical Surgical Hospital, in Cienfuegos, held on March 23, 1979, he said when referring to Health in the province:
“We didn’t have any technical schools, we have one. None blood banks, we have one. Dental prosthesis laboratory none, we have one. Provincial hygiene and epidemiology center none, we have one. And there was a mining-medicinal spa, one, and we have one (LAUGHTER), it is Ciego Montero. But there is something that was not there, which is the Ciego Montero water bottling factory. There wasn’t one, and we have one” (LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE).
Memorable date for the residents of that town, which treasures the most famous waters in Cuba and where strong community work is carried out in favor of a constant improvement in the quality of life.
