It was based on a mutual collaboration agreement that was signed, together with the provinces of Misiones, Santa Fe, Jujuy, La Pampa and Córdoba. One of the main objectives is to incorporate subnational governments into the dialogue tables of international forums.

Climate change represents a global challenge. Its planetary reach entails concrete local impacts and challenges for state public policies. In this framework, Governor Rogelio Frigerio assumed the climate change agenda as a priority for his government.

The signing ceremony of the agreement took place on April 22, on the occasion of Earth Day, and took place in the auditorium of the Tierra Sin Mal foundation located in the city of Posadas. It was attended by the general director of Environment and Climate Change, Maximiliano Gómez, representing the provincial government.

As can be seen from the signed minutes, this coalition of governments seeks to lay the strategic foundations of interprovincial cooperation for “the implementation of environmental and climate policies, dedicating special attention to prioritizing the enhancement of environmental services in global markets. Through “Projects that promote sustainability, contemplating the conservation of natural resources and an adequate response to climate change in their respective regions, the provinces will coordinate actions that promote social, educational and economic development.”

Likewise, the Argentine Green Alliance seeks to “share knowledge, experiences and carry out actions regarding mitigation and adaptation to climate change, such as the use of clean and renewable energies, land use planning, promoting agricultural sectors, strengthening the management of climate risk in the provinces, conservation of native ecosystems, biodiversity”, among others.

Provincial Climate Action Act

In this same sense and in line with what was announced by the governor on the occasion of the opening of the legislative year, the Minister of Economic Development, Guillermo Bernaudo, and his political and technical team, are advancing in the preparation of a provincial bill, mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

The project recovers the spirit of similar initiatives in other provinces and represents a complementary action to the provisions of national law 27,520 on Minimum Budgets for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change.

It contemplates as proposals the need to develop a Provincial Response Plan to Climate Change, with two mitigation and adaptation components. It also creates the Interministerial Climate Change Cabinet, to ensure the transversality and participation of different public actors in the development of public climate action policies, as well as the implementation of specific measures.
