We must fight against the empty land › Cuba › Granma

Abilio Conde Rojas aspires to collect more than a thousand liters of milk per day in the months of July and August and recover the numbers that have led him to be the largest milk producer in Cuba in previous years. To achieve this, he has an average of 25 animals per horse and more than seventy in milking.

At the San Antonio Farm, in areas of the José Antonio Echevarría Credit and Services Cooperative (CSS), four hectares are being prepared for the cultivation of cane and king grass, in addition, new dairy farms are being conditioned and water is assured for the herd. They predict a year 2024 with better results.

The member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, head of its Agri-Food department, and Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, arrived there, who in the exchange with the producer were interested. by the rotation of cattle, the preparation of heifers and reproduction techniques.

Both leaders asked Abilio what had to be done to save livestock farming in Cuba, to which the producer responded: “work force, willing, trained in handling livestock and putting in the resources that livestock farming has.” Tapia Fonseca insisted that we must listen to good producers and generalize their good experiences.

On the Santa Teresa farm belonging to Ariel Santana, associated with CCS Manuel Piti Fajardo, there were lands in preparation for planting cassava, banana and pumpkin, and taking advantage of the rains that could arrive with May. Likewise, they checked the progress of the Santa Rosa development area, in the municipality of Vertientes, where banana planting is expected to increase. Monteagudo referred to the fact that unplanted land does not yield anything, “that is why we must fight against empty land.”

During the visit they reached the productive centers of the Ruta Invasora de Vertientes Grain Agroindustrial Company, there, on the ground, the causes of the delays in land preparation and planting plans were analyzed and they guided work to plant all areas, optimizing time in their tillage and greater organization of the workforce to support agricultural work.
