Father, daughter and aunt, respectively, were in a home in this neighborhood when they were surprised by a landslide that broke away from the mountain and fell on two homes in this sector.

According to neighbors, the 57-year-old man had lived in this area for almost five years, was a merchant and they remember him as a good neighbor.

Miguel Ángel Hidalgo and the minors Sara, Shaira Andrea and Andrés Mateo Mosquera, are the other four members of this family who were rescued alive under the earth and rubble and were transferred to the San Jorge University Hospital in Pereira.

The tragedy was almost a repeat of what occurred two years ago in this same sector, but on that occasion There were 17 fatalities. According to data from the municipalities of Pereira and Dosquebradas, in 1976 another emergency had also occurred that left more than 50 people dead.

First responders from the Disaster Assistance and Prevention Battalion No. 80 of the Army’s Eighth Brigade, with the support of a dog trained to find bodies, managed to locate two living people and the body of the 19-year-old woman.

Some of these soldiers supported the rescue efforts that the Army carried out in this area two years ago.

“I remember that we responded to the call, we arrived the same as this time. We find what we see and help families. These tragedies affect the population and us as Public Forces in one way or another,” said professional soldier Yemid Elías Romaña.

This sector between Avenida del Río, in Pereira and the La Esneda neighborhood, in Dosquebradas, is an area of ​​non-mitigable risk from the slope to the bank of the Otún River and studies have determined that it cannot be inhabited, however, it does not The resources have been available to relocate the people who live in this area.

“The most important thing in this situation in La Esneda is to prevent it from happening again in this scenario, which is why there is a team of geologists in the area and other institutions that are active to attend to this emergency,” said the mayor in charge of Dosquebradas, Lina Mondragon.

The governor of Risaralda, Juan Diego Patiño, called on the National Government toaccelerate the relocation process of the 138 affected families due to the emergency of 2022 and to those of 70 more who were affected by the emergency this Saturday.

“This is what we want to tell President Gustavo Petro so that he can immediately help us find a solution to this problem. We have not made an appointment with the National Risk Management Unit. We hope that with this emergency they will prioritize us because these families deserve to have a definitive solution. For now, we are trying to relocate the families that are most at risk at this time,” Patiño said.
