After acknowledging in public that the officials he appointed to bring drinking water to La Guajira what they did was steal the money, and in other words, were cachacos, President Gustavo Petro, during the delivery of the water purification plant in Manaure, Guajira, He asked the Military Forces to prioritize her care in that region of the country.

“I ask the commanders of the Military Forces here that the priority, in this department, is to take care of water. One of the projects, perhaps more western, must be examined, it is already going to be put out to tender, is to carry a pipe from the Rancherías reservoir, diagonally towards the north of Guajiro,” said the president.

He had previously indicated that: “The tube that leaves the Rancherío reservoir is leaked hundreds of times. What comes out of there is drinking water, not gasoline, that is, something richer for humanity than gasoline and is invested in the crops of the large landowners and does not take the human being, sometimes the Army takes care of the water pipe. gasoline and gas and does not take care of the drinking water pipe.”

THE CACHACOS STOLEN THE SILVER

In the middle of the event, the president referred to what would be the scandal of the purchase of tank trucks by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management for that region of the country. He spoke of the difficulties there have been in solving the difficulties in bringing drinking water to that region of the country.

“Once the decrees have fallen, we must still impose the decisions made with the community and not back down. Now, when we tried, the second problem arose, the cachacos that we send here, apparently, I am not a judge, sought to steal the money, instead of giving solutions to the community, to build a system of capillarity that will take the public money to we still don’t know what destinations and again, again, stopping the possibilities of this region (…) having drinking water,” said Petro from La Guajira.

The president also said that in La Guajira there is an abundance of water, but that “there is a political power distributing the water, a power within the community itself that decides who gets the water and who doesn’t. The problem of La Guajira is not that there is no water, it is how the water is distributed. For example, someone decided that coal came before people.”

THE WATER PLANT

On a momentous day for the indigenous communities of Manaure, La Guajira, President Gustavo Petro today joined the inauguration ceremony of a water treatment plant, in the ‘La Guajira Mission’, an innovative alliance between the Government and the private sector.

The initiative, an integral part of the national agreement proposed by the Head of State, aims to comprehensively address the needs of 81 communities in Manaure and Uribia, home to more than 3,600 Wayuu families.

The heart of this day is the start-up of a water treatment plant designed to provide water suitable for human consumption to the Wayuu communities of Grasamana, Parenska 1 and Parenska 2, located in Manaure. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the plant is supported by a solar photovoltaic system that guarantees its sustainable operation.

President Petro, in his inaugural speech, highlighted the importance of this intervention not only in terms of basic access to services, but also in the recognition and respect for the worldview and ancestral knowledge of indigenous communities. In addition, he highlighted the alliance’s commitment to promoting local economic development, sustainable tourism and the transition to clean energy.

The ‘La Guajira Mission’ is not limited only to the delivery of infrastructure, but also encompasses comprehensive food security programs and productive projects. From the supply of inputs for family gardens to the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, including support for craft initiatives and community associations, the mission seeks to generate a lasting impact on the quality of life of the beneficiary communities.

With this delivery, President Petro said he reaffirms his commitment to the well-being and equitable development of all regions of Colombia, prioritizing those historically marginalized and vulnerable. For the Government, this Saturday’s day also represents the beginning of a new era of cooperation and progress in La Guajira.
