An unforgettable season for Los Pumas 7’s. The Argentine men’s rugby seven team finished in first position on the world circuit for the first time in its history.
The Argentine team sealed its dominance in Singapore by beating South Africa 14-10, securing fifth place in the tournament and consolidating its leadership in the standings with a total of 106 points.
Santiago Gómez Cora, coach of the team, expressed his gratitude for the support received and highlighted the fundamental role of the community in the success of the team. “This achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of everyone who is part of Los Pumas 7. We are very proud to represent our country and to bring our colors to the top of world rugby,” he stated.
Los Pumas 7’s campaign was brilliant, with outstanding performances throughout the season. After finishing second in Dubai, the Argentine team became champion on three consecutive occasions in Cape Town, Perth and Vancouver. Despite some less prominent positions in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, the victory over South Africa in Singapore was decisive in securing leadership in the standings.
Now, with the regular season concluded, the team is preparing to face new challenges in the world circuit finals in Madrid and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With the firm objective of maintaining its dominance in rugby sevens and continuing to inspire future generations of players, Los Pumas 7 are ready to face the best teams in the world and leave their mark in the history of Argentine sports.
“I can not believe it. You know my entire career as a player and now as a coach. I lost against you by more than 40 points and now we lead the table. It’s a dream. “I am very happy, very proud of my country,” added Santiago Gómez Cora in the official broadcast of the circuit.
“If people know who we are, more people support our team. We need more kids playing. We were able to put Argentina as the leader. We are very proud because we are leading this season and it is a dream. “When you work very hard, dreams come true,” he added, while highlighting that this result “means a lot” for Argentine rugby.
