The joint work between the Magdalena Police with the National Army and coordination of the Attorney General’s Office, aimed at combating organized crime in the department, allowed the capture of two alleged members of the criminal group Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia, an organization also known as ‘Gulf Clan’.

Those captured were identified by authorities as Jesús David Deavila Zambrano, alias ‘Jesús’ and José Ángel Fuentes Arias, alias ‘José’. The arrests were carried out through a raid and search of a property in the town of Menchiquejo, jurisdiction of the municipality of El Banco.

According to the information provided by the Magdalena Police, commanded by Colonel Javier Alberto Duarte Reyes, he indicated that, “alias ‘Jesús’, with a criminal history of two years, is identified as an alleged caletero and active member of the ‘Clan del Golfo’, who allegedly used his residence as a facade to hide firearms belonging to this structure. On the other hand, alias ‘José’ is considered an alleged criminal observation point at the service of the same criminal group.”

During the raid, authorities seized three revolvers and 15 cartridges, two shotguns, and two cell phones. Also, a flag alluding to the armed group ‘Clan del Golfo’. “This war material is being analyzed by the competent authorities to determine its involvement in various criminal actions, including selective homicides, intimidation of the civilian population and extortion of different unions and ranchers in the sector,” added the authorities who participated in the operation.
